Arizona Forts Manned by California Troops

Fort Mojave: Established on the east bank of the Colorado River near the head of Mojave Valley by Maj. Lewis A. Armistead, 6th U.S. Infantry, on May 1, 1859. Manned by 4th California Infantry from May 19, 1863, to March 13, 1866.
Fort Stanford: Established as Ft. Breckenridge north of Arivaipa Creek at the junction of the San Pedro River by the 8th U.S. Infantry on May 6, 1860. Garrison abandoned July 10, 1861 when Federal troops moved east. Named for California governor Leland Stanford. Manned by California troops during May 1862.
Fort Yuma: Established in the river bottoms below the mouth of the Gila River by the 2nd U.S. Infantry on November 27, 1850. Ft. Yuma was not abandoned when Federal troops moved east. Manned by California troops from November 1861 to November 1866.
